Tom Hiddleston Doesn’t Grasp ‘Loki’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite possibly the most important advancement in the world of blockbuster movies over the past decade or so. Marvel managed to bring forth an industry changing empire that has fundamentally re-arranged the way that movies come out. The Extended Cinematic Universe concept has been taken up and run with by dozens of other studios all looking to replicate Marvel’s success. At the core of Marvel’s winning ways is their incredible ability to cast excellent talent into iconic roles, such as Tom Hiddleston as fan favorite villain Loki. Tom Hiddelston first took on the role of Loki back in 2011 in the origin film, ‘Thor’. Since then Hiddleston has reprised the character five different times in the MCU, becoming more popular after each showing. Hiddleston, for his part, doesn’t quite get the hype with Loki.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has notoriously had trouble casting and portraying villain characters in line with the incredible talents they have anchoring their main heroes. Hiddleston has been one of the few exceptions as both character and actor routinely outshine the A-Listers that he shares a scene with. Still, Hiddleston hasn’t quite wrapped his mind around all of the love that Loki has gotten. Hiddleston sat down with a publication called the Times of India and he managed to speak a little bit on the character that has so defined him.

Speaking to the Times of India Hiddleston said of Loki, “It’s a constant surprise that I am still here.” Hiddleston goes on to explain that he never thought that Loki would stick around for so many years, particularly with him as the lead role. Hiddleston goes on to say, “I’ve spent six or seven years of my life trying to get to the bottom of what it is that he wants.” Hiddleston is in no way diminishing his work as the character Loki and he certainly isn’t throwing shade on the franchise that has made him a household name. In fact, it really is more of the opposite. Hiddleston instead has a sort of fascination with the character. He’s never been able to fully wrap his mind around the desires of the character and that has kept his take on him fresh and unique.

Loki will next appear in the film ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ which serves as a turning point for the lives of the various characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
