Jeff Goldblum to Reprise Role in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

There are few movie franchises as iconic as the ‘Jurassic Park’ series and for all of the right and wrong reasons. The original ‘Jurassic Park’, which stared Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neil, and Laura Dern, is considered one of the finest films of all time. From the iconic score to the lifelike animatronics, the project has stood the test of time. Despite the excellent first film, and equally excellent source material, ‘Jurassic Park’ sequels got worse and worse which finally culminated in a soft reboot just two years ago under the auspices of ‘Jurassic World’. ‘Jurassic World’ rebooted the franchise with Chris Pratt in the lead role. Now, as we’ve finally heard, it looks like one of the original cast members is coming back to the film. Jeff Goldblum recently teased his return as the eccentric mathematician, Ian Malcolm.

The ‘Jurassic World’ film starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard opened up the door for a rapid expansion. With dinosaurs back and potentially going global, the creative minds in control of the series have a real chance to bring back a ton of the original actors in the series. No character was more pined after than Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm. Goldblum hasn’t appeared in the franchise in over a decade but it was finally made clear that he would be returning for ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ which is set to release at some point in 2018. For those keeping track at home, Goldblum’s reprisal will come 21 years after the last time he played his character in ‘Jurassic Park II’.

Goldblum, as is his natural personality, was very coy when talking about the potential return of Ian Malcolm. Goldbum said in an interview, “Ian Malcolm, yes, might be back in this one and he might have something to say about the current confluence of circumstances around the use and misuse of technology.” Goldblum was obviously hesitant to reveal anything huge in terms of details and that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Goldblum’s return to the franchise reboot shows that the series runners are serious about making it an expansive blockbuster for years and years to come. When pressed more about the life of his character Goldblum went on to say, “What’s he been in the meantime? He opened a jazz club, probably. He’s been playing every Wednesday in a place called Rockwell. He calls it Rockwell.” Is that at all true? Probably not, but we cannot wait to find out.
