The fans of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Jacksonville Jaguars were both upset with the way in which their game was officiated. Both teams said that there were fouls that should have been called against the other, and there were calls made that should not have occurred at all.
When it was all said and done, the Jaguars emerged the victor in a wild game. Your final on Sunday was 45-42 in favor of the visiting team. The Steelers fans at Heinz field were stunned when the Jags jumped out to an early 21-0 lead. This was powered by an early interception thrown by the Steelers, and by two early touchdown scores by the Jaguars running back (he would add a third later in the game).
The game was feisty right from the beginning. Both teams clearly wanted to win this one, but there was a lot of pushing and shoving after plays in the first quarter. One Steelers player even pushed a referee out of the way during one of these scuffles. Despite this, he was not penalized or ejected from the game.
It is not uncommon for a player to be ejected from the game for doing so much as laying one finger on a referee, let alone shoving one. Jaguars fans saw this as just the beginning.
Later, a Jaguar was shoved by a Steeler into another Steeler. Guess who got called for unsportsmanlike conduct? That’s right, the Jaguar. He could not have prevented running into the other player out of bounds as he was being shoved into him. Still, it did not matter, it was fifteen yards.
It didn’t particularly matter in the end as the Jaguars did pull off the upset regardless. It was not the kind of game that anyone was expecting though. The Jaguars were seven point underdogs to begin with, and they were much more respected for their defense than for their offense. They did score one defensive touchdown, but all the rest of their points came from the offense. It was perhaps the best display on offense from the Jaguars of the entire season.
This was the second time this season that the Jaguars went into Heinz field and came away with the win. Earlier in the regular season they defeated the Steelers by a score of 30-9. The Jaguars will now advance to go to play the New England Patriots in New England. If the Jaguars can manage to pull off yet another upset, they would advance to their first ever Super Bowl appearance.
