At the time, he listened to rappers like 2pac and R&B Group Jodeci. When he was only 13 years old, he got sent to a youth detention program for committing robberies. He also fought in school.

He chose the stage name PnB Rock, as an acronym for Pastorius and Baynton. This is a street corner near the area he grew up in Philadelphia.
Allen released his debut mixtape Real N*gga Bangaz in June 2014. He wrote the mixtape while he was in prison. In 2015, he got his big break by signing a deal with Atlantic Records. Under this major record label, he released the project RnB3. That was his third mixtape.
In June 2016, Rakim released his most successful song to date. The single Selfish peaked at Number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Selfish sold 1 million copies in the United States alone. And in October the same year, Rolling Stone magazine included him in the list “10 New Artists You Need to Know”.
