Born as Francesco Stephen Castellucio in 1934 in an Italian family, Frankie is the eldest of three sons. His father was a barber. And his mother worked as a homemaker and beer company employee. His mother took him to see young Frank Sinatra at the Paramount Theater when he was 7 years old. That inspired him to enter the world of music.

In the early 1950s, he started his music career with the Variety Trio with Nickie DeVito, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Macioci. They granted him a spot after hearing him sing during their performance. For his first single, My Mother’s Eyes, he chose the name Frankie Valley. But he later on changed to Frankie Valli.

Soon after, he and Tommy DeVito formed the band The Variatones. They renamed the band to The Four Lovers soon after. They recorded several singles and one album. They got their first minor hit with You’re the Apple of My Eve.

There were a couple of changes to the members and names. But eventually, they got to the name The 4 Seasons in 1960.
