After Obsesion, the group released several more songs and albums. But the group eventually broke up. Following the breakup of the group, Romeo embarked on a solo career. And he is quite successful in it.
For several years, his songs reached on the Hot Latin Songs chart. He is one of the most internationally recognized Latin artists. Many consider him the King of the Bachata genre. That is why Romeo Santos’s estimated assets are more than $30 million.
Career Ups and Downs
Romeo was the lead singer and co-producer of Aventura. He formed the group in 1996 along with his cousin Henry Santos, and friends Lenny Santos and Max Santos. They released their debut album in 1999, hoping to bring bachata music into the mainstream. Their goal is to move it from the traditional base and fuse bachata with hip-hop and R&B.
In 2002, their song Obsesion achieved international success. It topped several charts in Germany, France, Italy, and more countries. The band released five studio albums in a decade, spawning many more hits. Some of their best songs include Un Beso, Amor de Madre, Los Infieles, Cuando Volveras, Dile Al Amor, Por Un Segundo, and many more.
In 2009, Aventura performed for the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama at the White House.
But in 2011, the group separated. Romeo said that the group was on pause due to individual projects. They reunited to close the second night of the sold-out Yankee Stadium concert on July 12, 2014. In December 2015, they announced a new tour. The band reunited for a whole month of touring in February 2016.
Following the breakup of Aventura, Romeo started his solo career. He announced in April 2011 that he is leaving the group. He signed with Sony Records the same month and released the debut single on May 9. The song “You” reached Number One on the Hot Latin Songs and Tropical Songs chart. For his second song, Promise, he collaborated with Usher and again topped the charts.
In 2012, Romeo Santos sold out the Madison Square Garden three nights in a row. He turned the performance in a CD and DVD package and released it as a live album. And in 2014, he sold out an entire double-header show at the Yankee Stadium. This is accomplishment artists and bands like Metallica, Pink Floyd, and other notable names couldn’t achieve.
He released his second album on February 25, 2014. For this album, he collaborated with artists like Drake, Marc Anthony, Nicki Minaj, Kevin Hart, Carlos Santana, and Tego Calderon. The album is the best-selling Latin album of 2014.
He released his third album, Golden, on July 21, 2017. This time, he collaborated with artists like Julio Iglesias, Jessie Reyez, Daddy Yankee, Nicky Jam, Ozuna, and more.
And in April 2019, he released his fourth studio album. This time, for Utopia, he united with pioneers and legends of traditional modern bachata. Names include Antony Santos, Luis Vargas, Joe Veras, Elvis Martinez, and more. Even Aventura released an official song within the album.
Net Worth, Earnings and Income
In July 2014, Romeo Santos was the first Latin name to sell out the Yankee Stadium. And he did it for two shows. The Yankee stadium has 50,000 seats for a concert. As we said before, even bands like Pink Floyd and Metallica don’t have this feat in their achievements. Even hometown hero Jay-Z could not accomplish this feat.
Tours are the biggest source of income for Romeo Santos. Thanks to tours, Romeo Santos fortune is close to $30 million. Some of his notable tours include The King Stays King, Formula Vol.2 Tour, Golden Tour, and Utopia Tour.
Besides music, he also has a successful acting career. He appeared in the 2007 Dominican film Sanky Panky as himself. Fellow band members of Aventura also appeared in the movie. He made his Hollywood debut in the Furious 7 movie, released in April 2015. Santos lent his voice for the Early Bird character in the 2016 movie The Angry Birds.
Awards and Achievements
His awards cabinet is amazing. He is in his late 30s, and he already has more than 50 awards for his music. He got more than 150 nominations for his songs. He has two Billboard music awards, seventeen Billboard Latin Music Awards, twenty-two ASCAP Awards, and more.
Personal Life
Romeo manages to keep his personal life a secret for the most part. Lately, a Latin news house claimed he is in a long term relationship with an unknown girl. There was even a photo on Instagram with the couple posing. And the girl had an engagement ring on.
Other sources say he had a short-lived affair with Samantha Medina when he was younger. There is no proof he got married to her.
He didn’t adopt any kids. But he does have a son. And he says that he was a kid having a kid. Some sources claim he was just 16 years old when he got his first child.
In 2019, he opened up about the son and said he enjoys spending time with him. At the time he got him, he was young, and he had only music on his mind.
