Jeannette Minnoch – Living With The Fattest Man In The World

Jeannette Minnoch is the former wife of Jon Brower Minnoch, famously known as the fattest man in the world. The two got married in a private ceremony in front of their friends and family. That happened back in 1978, and the two were lovers and friends before that.

Yet, only five years after their wedding, the couple’s life was shattered when Jon Brower passed away. To this day, he remains the world’s fattest man, weighing 1400 pounds at his peak.

Who Was Her Celebrity Husband?

Before we can talk about Jeannette Minnoch, we have to mention her husband. Born in September 1941, Jon Minnoch was an American man who got famous for being the heaviest human ever recorded. At his peak, he weighed 1,400 lbs, which is 100 stone.

Jon struggled with weight gain and obesity his entire life. Even as a young child, at 12 years of age, he weighed 294 lbs, which is 21 stone. According to some records, at the time, he was 5 ft 7 inches tall. And by the age of 22, he grew to 6 ft 1 inch, and 500 lbs. He nearly doubled his weight in 10 years.

His weight continued to increase steadily until his hospitalization in March 1978 at the age of 36. At the time, he was getting ready to get married to the love of his life, Jeannette Minnoch.

He was admitted to the hospital due to heart and respiratory failure. The same year, he broke the record for the greatest difference in weight between a married couple.

Jon weighed 1,400 lbs, and his wife Jeannette Minnoch weighed 110 lbs. Despite their weight difference, Brower fathered two children.

He was diagnosed with massive generalized edema, a condition in which the body accumulates excess extracellular fluid. According to endocrinologist Robert Schwartz, much of his overall body mass was retained fluid.

Even transportation was extremely difficult. It took over a dozen firemen and rescue personnel, along with a specially modified stretcher to transport him to the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. There, he had to be placed on two beds pushed together. It took 13 people to simply roll him over for linen changes.

Once admitted there, Jon had to be put on a strict diet. His calorie intake was limited to 1,200. Within one year, he lost 924 lbs and reached a weight of 476 lbs.

Many, including his wife, believed that would be a turning point for the heaviest man in the world. But things went back to normal once he was discharged from the hospital. Jon Minnoch resorted to old habits and gained half of the weight he had lost.

At this point, he weighed 796 lbs, which was still overweight. Despite his large weight, he somehow managed to live a normal life. He got married to Jeannette, and the pair went on to have two children.

But his health complications didn’t allow him to have a long and prosperous life. Due to his weight, his edema was untreatable and that caused his demise in 1983.

To this date, no one has come close to breaking his Guinness World Record for the heaviest person in the world. The only one who got close enough was Juan Pedro Franco Salas. He weighed 1,105 lbs and suffered from obesity since his childhood. Salas had an accident when he was 17 that made his condition worse.

Yet, despite his weight, Salas went on to become an accomplished guitar player. Eventually, though, the weight was too much. And Salas became a prisoner in his body.

Going back to Job Brower Minnoch, he passed away in 1983. But first, he got admitted to the hospital again, in October 1981. At the time, his weight increased to 952 lbs. Just 23 months later, he passed away in September 1983. He was 41 years old at the time and weighed 798 lbs. His body mass index was 105.3.

Why Was Jon Brower Minnoch So Heavy?

As we said before, Job was an American known as the fattest man alive. At his peak weight, he weighed 1,400 pounds. His obesity began early in childhood.

By 12 years of age, he weighed 400 pounds, by 18 he weighed 700 pounds and required a custom-made bed just to sleep comfortably. Fun fact: according to some sources, at one point he reached 1,600 lbs, but this figure remains unconfirmed and may have been exaggerated.

The interesting part is that despite his extreme size, Job managed to live a normal life and was relatively healthy. Things changed when he developed congestive heart failure in September 1976. This condition caused his weight to balloon to 1,400 pounds over the next few months as fluid built up in his tissues.

Over the next two years, he managed to lose 600 pounds, but that was not enough to save him from heart failure in September 1983.

The cause of his extreme obesity remains unknown. But many believe that genetic factors and overeating during his childhood caused his demise.
