Fun fact: Sam got her directorial feature film debut with Nowhere Boy, the 2009 biopic based on John Lennon. That movie gave Samantha her directorial debut, Aaron his big role, and for the two of them, it was the birth of a huge love story.
Born in Croydon, London, she grew up with a single mother. Her father left them when she was nine years old. Her mother worked as a yoga teacher and astrologist. Sam has a younger sister, Ashley, and a maternal half-brother, Kristian.

Samantha was married before, to an art dealer named Jay Jopling. She had two daughters with him, born in April 1997 and in 2007. They separated in 2008 after 11 years of marriage.
That is when English actor Aaron Johnson came into her life. They met on the set of the Nowhere Boy movie. At the time, she was 42 and he was 18 years of age. And they have been together ever since.
Fun fact: they almost missed their opportunity. Aaron was only available to audition on a date that she was absent. He had a limited schedule because of filming Kick-Ass. But he auditioned for the biopic at her house.
