Who Is His Father?
First, we have to talk about his father, Petros Pete Sampras. Regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, he was born in August 1971. The American former World No.1 tennis player began his professional career in 1998 and finished it at the 2002 US Open. In the final that year, he defeated his longtime rival, Andre Agassi.
In total, Pete Sampras has won 14 Grand Slam titles. For a long time, that was the record for most Slams, before Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic each won more. All three of them have 20+ Slam titles.

Sampras turned professional at the age of 16 in 1988. That year, he finished as World Number 97 after starting the year at No. 893. A couple of weeks into his career, he defeated two top 40 players at the Lipton International Players Championship in Miami.
In 1989, he improved his ranking to No. 81, losing to in the first round of the Australian Open. Yet, at the US Open, he defeated the defending champion Mats Wilander in the second round, before losing to Jay Berger in the fourth round.
In 1990, Sampras lost in the first round of Wimbledon and did not play in the French Open. In September of that year, he captured his first Grand Slam Title, winning the US Open. Along the way to his first title, he defeated Thomas Muster, Ivan Lendl, McEnroe, and Agassi. At the age of 19 years and 28 days, he became the US Open’s youngest-ever male singles champion.
It wasn’t until a few years later that he battled for the World No. 1 title. Andre Agassi was his biggest rival. In 1995, the two squared off at two Grand Slam finals, with Pete winning both of them. That allowed Sampras to reach the ATP World Number 1 ranking for the first time in his career.
In 2001, his Wimbledon win streak of 31 matches was ended by Roger Federer, who was 19 at the time. It was the only time these two legends played in an official professional match.
During his career, he won the Australian Open two times, Wimbledon seven times, and US Open five times. He never got further than the semi-finals at the French Open.
His legacy is as an all-court player who would often serve and volley. He had an accurate and powerful first serve, widely considered one of the best of all time.
